Ice Show Policies
The James River Figure Skating Club presents an Annual Ice Show each spring on dates confirmed with Jamestown Parks and Recreation and the JRFSC Board. The Ice Show is designed to provide the community audience with quality entertainment. All skaters must agree to and follow these policies.
Skater Eligibility and Participation
- Skaters must be registered for Session 3 lessons by the date posted in the Ice Show informational handout and be a minimum of three years old to be eligible to be in the Ice Show.
- Must be in good standing with the club and all accounts must be paid in full by the first day of Ice Show Rehearsals.
- The Ice Show fee must be paid in full by the deadline posted on the Ice Show informational handout.
- The Ice Show fee is non-refundable.
- Solos, groups, and group numbers are decided by the skating coaches.
- Associate members with the JRFSC who are willing to commit to show rehearsals will be eligible to participate in group numbers, ensembles, and solos as determined by the skating coaches.
- The core committee can remove any skater from any number or the entire show if they have deemed that circumstances necessitate it.
- This may be due to attendance issues, poor behavior, or other reasons not listed.
Attendance at Rehearsals and Performances
- Attendance is VERY important. Skaters in all groups are expected to attend every rehearsal for the ice show as well as every show. Rehearsals will begin mid-February.
- Rehearsal times may vary.
- Skaters need to be on time and remain on the ice for the full rehearsal, except in the rare cases of bathroom needs or injury. Skaters should use the restroom before rehearsals. Attentive, respectful behavior will be required. Leaving the ice for reasons not listed or undisciplined behavior may result in removal from the show.
- Excused absences will be allowed for, but are not limited to, illness, injury, or family emergencies.
- Notification of an absence must be given to the show producer prior to the absence.
- Ice Show 2026 producer is Amy Johnson (920-915-3547)
- If skaters are not at a scheduled practice and have not given prior notice, the core committee will use their discretion in determining if an unexcused absence will be issued.
- An unexcused absence will result in withdrawal from that particular show number.
- Absence from more than one rehearsal for a particular number for any reason could result in withdrawal from that number.
- Withdrawal decisions will be made by the coaches, show producer, and core committee.
- Factors taken into consideration by the core committee include, but are not limited to, reason for absences, knowledge of the routine, and how the routine is coming together as a whole group.
- Removal from a number will not result in a refund.
Solos, Spotlight Features, Duos, and Trios
- A limited number of solos may be available based on the format of the show.
- SKATERS ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION FOR A SOLO ARE NOT GUARANTEED A SOLO IN THE SHOW.
- Solos, Spotlights, Duos, and Trios are decided by the skating coaches.
- The following criteria are used for consideration in skating a Solo Number in the show:
- Must be a JRFSC competitive skater (This does not include Basic Skills Competitors).
- Must be actively skating for the entire season (September-February).
- Passed the Pre-Preliminary Free Skate test.
- Competed in at least two competitions (not including Basic Skills Competitions) during the present competitive season and competed in a Showcase event in competition during the present skating season.
- High School Senior competitive skaters who have met the above criteria will have the opportunity to skate a Senior Solo in the show. Music, choreography, and costume for the Senior Solo number can be chosen by the skater but must be approved by the coach.
- The following criteria are used for consideration in skating a Duo or Trio Number in the show:
- Competitive skaters who have competed in a minimum of two competitions in the present skating season.
- Must be actively skating for the entire season (September-February).
- If a Hockey Skate number is included in the show, the skaters must be competitive skaters skating at the Preliminary Level or higher and in at least ninth grade to be considered for this number.
Costumes
- Costumes will be provided for all numbers in the show except solos.
- Costumes for solos/features are chosen and purchased by the skater with the final approval of the coach.
- Skaters will take costumes home with them after the final show.
- Some exceptions include rental costumes and club stock items such as bodysuits, boot covers, bloomers, etc. The show costumer will communicate what items need to be returned to the club.
- Costumes will not be given to any skaters that were removed from a number or dropped out of the show.
- In the event of a costume being damaged, the costumer will do his or her best to repair or replace the costume. If the costume cannot be repaired or replaced, the skater will not be able to participate in that number.
- If the damage cannot be repaired and is not due to an unavoidable accident, the skater or their parent will be responsible for the cost of replacing the costume.
- Examples include, but are not limited to, spilling food or drink on the costume or damaging the costume based on irresponsible behavior.
General Policies
- Ice Show direction is the responsibility of the Ice Show Committee and Coaches.
- Parent concerns are to be directed to the producer and not the coaches.
- Skaters absent from school on the day of a show performance may not attend or participate in the show unless the Core Committee verifies the absence as an emergency.
- Failure to comply with ice show policies by skaters and/or parents may result in withdrawal from the show.
- Each family must volunteer to work during at least three of the four shows.
- Back Stage Ice (ice behind curtain) is NOT for warm-up.
- Ramps - Only skaters using the ramps in the show who have received individual instruction from the coach on how to skate on the ramps may use them. This policy is for before, during & even after any rehearsals or performances of the show.
